Implementation Report

Part 1: SDGs Addressed by Companies

On Wednesday, October 7, 2020, we held the first online seminar on “SDGs Addressed by Companies,” a joint project with the United Nations University SDG Corporate Strategy Forum.
The first session began with an orientation by Ryuji Kitajima, Executive Director of the SDGs Corporate Strategy Forum, followed by a lecture entitled “UNU SDGs Initiatives and SDGs Corporate Strategy Forum” by UNU Senior Vice Rector Daikan Oki, followed by a presentation on JT’s SDGs initiatives by Yoshimasa Mukai, Director of Sustainability Management Department of Japan Tobacco Co., Ltd. (JT).
In the lecture by Senior Vice President Oki, he explained examples of SDGs initiatives from the perspective of “water” issues, which are not often faced in Japan. In addition, a wide range of explanations were given, including specific goals for achieving the purpose of the SDGs Corporate Strategy Forum, which is to “aim to realize a sustainable society and contribute to the long-term and sustainable growth of companies through the penetration of the SDGs into corporate management and strategic departments,” as well as SDGs goals related to students’ job hunting.
In his presentation, Mr. Mukai explained the overall picture of JT, followed by a detailed explanation of the JT Group’s common foundations: respect for human rights, reduction of environmental impact and exercise of social responsibility, and implementation of high-quality governance and business norms. In addition, there were presentations on interesting content for learning about JT, such as a story about the development of cigarettes with low health risks.
After the presentation, a discussion was held between Senior Vice President Oki and Dean Mukai during a question-and-answer session with the audience, and the results of the questionnaire were highly satisfactory from the participating students.

Part 2: SDGs Addressed by Companies

On Friday, November 6, 2020, we held the second online seminar on “SDGs Addressed by Companies,” a joint project with the United Nations University SDG Corporate Strategy Forum.
This time, Lion Corporation and UCC Holdings Corporation presented examples of SDGs initiatives.
In a presentation by Ms. Midori Wada, General Manager of the CSV Promotion Department of Lion Corporation, she explained the LION Eco Challenge 2050, a long-term environmental goal established last year to realize a decarbonized society and a recycling-oriented society. There was an introduction such as.
In the next presentation, Ms. Rie Sekine, General Manager of the Sustainability Promotion Office of UCC Holdings Co., Ltd., gave a presentation titled “The UCC Group’s Sustainable Actions” and explained the unique initiatives of “collaboration with producing countries” and “coffee value creation.”
There were many questions from the students in the audience about both presentations, indicating a high level of interest. Discussions were held with the speakers based on the questions asked by the students, and the speakers were asked to answer questions as much as possible within the time limit to deepen their understanding of the initiatives.
The results of the questionnaire conducted after the seminar also showed a high level of satisfaction, and both the speakers and the audience were able to spend a meaningful time.

Part 3: SDGs Addressed by Companies

On Tuesday, December 8, 2020, we held the third online seminar on “SDGs Addressed by Companies,” co-hosted with the United Nations University Forum on Corporate Strategy for SDGs.
This time, after a presentation on the case studies of Toyota Motor Corporation’s SDGs initiatives, a discussion was held with faculty members from a university in Kyoto and the Senior Vice Rector of the United Nations University.
In her presentation, Ms. Tomomi Otsuka, Deputy Chief Sustainability Officer of Toyota Motor Corporation, introduced that the company is working on initiatives with the vision of “transforming society into possibilities” and the mission of “mass-producing happiness” beyond that.

Specifically, he introduced initiatives unique to automobile companies, such as “using the electricity of the car as a mobile generator to supply power in the event of an emergency” and “joint development of a towed-type mobile toilet.” In addition to installing toilets, the initiative to install toilets in about 200 public schools in India has helped children get into the habit of washing their hands and using the toilet cleanly for the next person, and by installing toilets so that women and children can not only go to the toilet safely, but also make it a habit to clean the toilet themselves. He introduced initiatives such as eliminating the sense of hierarchy in society (changing the awareness that cleaning toilets is a job for people of low status).

After the presentation, a four-person discussion was held with Tomomi Otsuka, Ritsumeikan University President Yoshio Nakatani, Ryukoku University Vice-Rector Katsutaka Shiraishi, and United Nations University Senior Vice Rector Daikan Oki as moderator. A lively discussion was held that contributed to the SDGs initiatives through the exchange of opinions based on the content of Toyota Motor Corporation’s initiatives, the presentation of how companies and universities approach the SDGs, and the sharp questions and answers from the audience. The results of the questionnaire conducted after the seminar also showed a high level of satisfaction, and both the speakers and the audience were able to spend a meaningful time.

【Report】Kyoto High School Teacher Exchange Meeting Emergency Special Project (Online Pre-Project)

As each school needs to take measures to close schools and respond to online classes due to the prevention of the spread of the new coronavirus infection, we held an emergency special event (online pre-project) as an emergency special project (online pre-project) to respond to this unprecedented emergency.
This time, under the theme of “Online Information Exchange Meeting on the Motivation and Learning Motivation of New Students Due to School Closures,” the participants exchanged and exchanged opinions with a focus on maintaining motivation and dealing with the mental health of new students who were closed immediately after entering the school in April.
Since this was the first time the event was held online, this time, 59 people, including high schools in Kyoto Prefecture, participated, although the publicity was limited to information to each high school from the Kyoto High School Collaborative Research Council Secretariat (Kyoto Prefectural Board of Education, Kyoto City Board of Education, and Kyoto Prefectural Federation of Private Junior and Senior High Schools).

The details of this exchange meeting are as follows. In addition, we have posted a report summarizing the contents of this exchange meeting, so we hope that you will refer to it.

* The “Kyoto High School Teacher Exchange Meeting” is a place where people who transcend the boundaries of schools and homerooms to exchange ideas and concerns about school and homeroom management, class improvement, etc., and share their thoughts on solutions.

theme “Online information exchange meeting related to the motivation and learning motivation of new students due to school closures”
Contents With the closure of schools to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus infection, there are concerns that students’ motivation to learn will decrease. In particular, new students are expected to have difficulty maintaining motivation because they will not be able to build relationships with friends and seniors after attending school a few times, and will be closed or switched to online classes. Although there are many issues to be addressed, such as academic ability and daily life, it is important to consider new students, and this time it will be a place for interaction specializing in maintaining motivation and dealing with mental aspects.
In addition, it will be an opportunity to experience online interaction through the use of Zoom meetings.

Wine Grocery Inc.
~Wine seminar planning and holding projects for students~

Considering the wine market, which is at risk of shrinking in the future due to young people moving away from alcohol, this project plans and implements a “wine seminar for students” to make young people aware of the appeal of wine and become future customers.

In preparation for the wine seminar, we created and distributed flyers to attract customers, posted them on social media, and presented the contents of the preparations and operations on the day of the seminar. In the questionnaire after the seminar, the participants were highly satisfied, and some said that they felt closer to wine, and they were able to fulfill the objectives presented by the host company. In addition, the trainees were grateful to the host company for gaining a wide range of knowledge about wine.

University Consortium Kyoto
~IS Program Fascinated by Images~

A project to create a PR video to effectively promote the internship program “Long-term Project Course” of the University Consortium Kyoto.

Under the guidance of the coordinator in charge on how to shoot and edit the video, we compiled a three-minute video that covered and interviewed the activities of each project and made it into a three-minute video that could be used for guidance and other public relations. I felt that the editing process of the video was not progressing, so I created a scenario, worked efficiently, and reported that if there were any new discoveries in the interview and editing, I changed the plan and completed the video. The resulting video shows the lively expressions of the students participating in the project.

Day Alive Inc.

~Kyoto’s Inbound Tourism Information Media Renovation and New Business Plan~

This project aims to raise the profile of “Traveler’s Voice of Kyoto,” a visual media that delivers the voices of foreign tourists.

In order to introduce Kyoto and contribute to the community, we found unknown places and places where you can have extraordinary experiences, conducted interviews and interviews, uploaded them to Instagram, and created a free paper. In addition to using attractive photo slides, the video included the interview, and it was reported that the number of articles posted and the number of followers were achieved at the beginning.

Non-profit organization Kino Environment
~Production of environmental education tools~

This is a project to come up with environmental education tools related to garbage and deepen everyone’s understanding of the environment.

The project we planned was to create “disposal site cards” about waste treatment facilities so that children would be interested in the environment, and to install the cards at waste treatment facilities. When we prepared a project outline and negotiated the installation of the card, it was decided that it could not be realized due to the problems of Mr. Mr./Ms. for installation, but we summarized the activities so far in the “Report Report”. It was a valuable opportunity to experience the difficulties of launching and realizing a project, and he would like to make use of it in the future.

Kansai Winding Foil Industry Co., Ltd.
~PROJECT TO DISSEMINATE MADE IN JAPAN’S MANUFACTURING TO THE WORLD~

This is a project to promote the unknown charms of Kyoto’s companies, such as amazing technologies and interesting products, from the perspective of students.

We created multiple 5-second videos for the purpose of corporate publicity, which will be shown at a joint company exhibition in the Kyoto area in October. In the creation of the video, we referred to the opinions of other companies and worked on the work until the students were satisfied, so that the students and the host company were able to agree on the work. The presentation was a free talk, and it was devised so that the audience would not get bored.

Ueda Co., Ltd. Head Office
~Planning and operation for matching events between companies and students~

This is a project to plan and implement a “company visit tour,” which is a matching event between students and outstanding companies in Kyoto that are unknown to students.

We mainly reported on the selection of companies, making appointments, scheduling, attracting students to participate, and the state of the event on the day of the event. In the first half of the event, we visited two companies, and in the second half, we planned group work to exchange opinions on “what axes I want to value in terms of future work styles” and “what is a good company for me?” Participants were highly satisfied, and we were able to read the results from the numbers.

This is a project to disseminate the revitalization and charm of Yamashina Ward, Kyoto City on SNS, and to create and introduce a free paper.

We negotiated interviews with places and people we were interested in in the Yamashina area, and conducted about 20 interviews. In addition to posting on Facebook and Instagram about the restaurants and other sites we were interviewing, we also reported on the fact that we posted them in free papers and distributed the free papers we created to the stores where they were posted. I could feel that the trainees were familiar with the Yamashina area and supported their activities.

~Teacher Training Support Seminar~

Training schools: Higashi-Uji Junior High School, Mukai Elementary School, Kando Elementary School, Uji City
This is a program in which trainees repeatedly learn and reflect on their individual and group goals through practical training at a training school, and grow.

Through the guidance of the teachers at the seminar school, I was able to discover the skills that I need to develop in order to become a teacher, and I was able to find my future challenges.

get-together

After the project presentations, a social gathering was held. Hosted by four trainees, the event was a lively event with games such as self-introduction bingo and sudden interviews, and the trainees and coordinators were able to interact frankly.

“2019 High School and University Collaboration Future Session” was held!

On Sunday, September 22, 2019, we held the Future Session at Campus Plaza Kyoto, and on Sunday, September 29, 2019 at Fukuchiyama Public University.
The Future Session, now in its fourth year, is a career education program that aims to promote the career development of high school and university students, and to engage in dialogue and exchange across generations, including high school students, university students, and working adults.
This year, the event was held at two venues, one in Kyoto and the other in the northern part of Kyoto Prefecture, with 26 high school and university students attending the event in the northern part of Kyoto Prefecture.

This time, we invited Mr. Noriaki Imai, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the certified NPO D×P at the venue in Kyoto City, and Mr. Atsushi Tamura, CEO of Tsunagum Co., Ltd., at the venue in the northern part of Kyoto Prefecture. Under the theme of “What kind of work will be needed in society in the future?”, the two of them looked back on their high school and university days, and talked about the changes in their thinking, realizations, and triggers that led them to the present.
After listening to the guest lecture for one hour, each group shared their impressions and made up questions for the guests. Both guests carefully answered each question from each group.
After that, as a group work, we held a World Café and deepened our thoughts on work by sharing opinions from other groups on the theme of this year’s event, “What kind of work will be needed in society in the future?”

The participants were able to interact with students and university students from other schools that they would not normally meet, and were able to come into contact with various opinions and spend a meaningful time with a lot of awareness and learning.
