Let’s go to the school festival together!

Autumn is the season of school festivals!

Autumn is the season of school festivals. At each university and junior college, the executive committee members are making elaborate plans for the school festival. It is also interesting that each university has its own personality, such as various projects and mock shops by each club and circle, and appearances by famous cultural figures, singers, and celebrities. Of course, it is attractive that not only university students, but also high school students and the general public can visit. Why don’t you experience a different university atmosphere that you can’t experience at an open campus? Here is all the information on each university’s school festival!

Publication of materials from three universities on support for students with disabilities

In response to the implementation of the Act on the Elimination of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities 2016, universities have urgently needed to establish support coordinators and improve their software and services. However, universities that have little experience in accepting students with disabilities have no choice but to build a system in the dark when developing a support system, and it takes a lot of time to smoothly manage and implement support for students with disabilities.
In order to solve these issues, we will publish the materials of the three universities (Kyoto University, Kyoto Sangyo University, and Doshisha University) provided in the Foundation’s designated research project (see below) conducted in FY2016.
The tacit knowledge accumulated by the coordinators is “visualized” by sharing information on materials, and is open to the public in the hope of improving the skills of support staff and raising the quality of support for students with disabilities at each university.
We would appreciate it if you could improve it according to the support environment and policies of each university.

theme Establishment of a database of accessibility and reasonable accommodations for the elimination of discrimination against persons with disabilities at universities
Toward the Establishment of a Collaborative Organization for the Office of Support for Students with Disabilities
Principal Investigator Satoshi Yoshida (Associate Professor, Graduate School of Engineering, Kyoto University)
Background and Objectives of the Research In response to the enforcement of the Act on the Elimination of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities in 2016, there is an urgent need for universities to establish a support coordinator for students with disabilities, to understand and improve the physical environment on campus, and to improve the software and service environment that supports education and research. In addition, there are many different forms of support such as reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities, and the individual knowledge and know-how of the staff in charge of responding to them are not shared, and depending on the employment status of the staff, they remain buried and are not shared both inside and outside the university.
In connection with this, we will significantly increase the level of progress in efforts to eliminate discrimination against persons with disabilities at universities in the wake of the enactment of the Act on the Elimination of Discrimination on the Grounds of Disability in FY2016 by building a database that covers the knowledge of efforts at each university, and to bring it to the same level as or exceed that of developed UD countries, and to create new initiatives for the elimination of discrimination against persons with disabilities. The purpose of this course is to present the possibility of a project led by the University Consortium Kyoto. In particular, the purpose of this study is to “visualize” the tacit knowledge and skills of the faculty and staff in charge, such as the know-how for constructive dialogue and consensus-building with relevant faculty members, as well as methods for raising awareness and disseminating information, which the support coordinators for students with disabilities at each university have accumulated in their practice, and to present guidelines that can be shared with university staff who have not yet established a sufficient support organization for students with disabilities on campus.

The second pre-event of the Kyoto Student Festival 15th Anniversary Project was held on Sunday, August 27th at Kyoto Station Building & Porta!

Thank you for holding the event

Following on from the previous pre-event, the second pre-event of the 15th Kyoto Student Festival 15th Anniversary Project in Kyoto Station Building & Porta was successfully completed on Sunday, August 27, thanks to everyone’s support and cooperation.
On the day of the event, we were able to carry out all the programs of the “Kyoto Student Festival 15th Anniversary Festa in Kyoto Station Building & Porta” with a pleasant breeze blowing as if autumn had arrived, along with a large chorus of cicadas feeling the hot summer. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who came to the event and to all those who worked hard in various fields to hold the pre-event.

Event Report

Kyoto City Daisaku Kadokawa, Kyoto Student Festival Executive Committee Chairperson, and international students sprinkling water

At the 15th Kyoto Student Festival, students themselves become “culture” in Kyoto, which is called “Kyoto City of Students” under the theme of creating “Kyoto student culture,” and we are working every day with the goal of becoming a “culture” themselves, learning about Kyoto’s culture, and creating a new culture that adds a student’s personality to it. And at the main festival of the Kyoto Student Festival (held on October 8), which is the culmination of these efforts, we aim to make the festival more rooted in Kyoto and loved by people while demonstrating the passionate energy of the students to the fullest.
This time, “15th Anniversary Festa in Kyoto Station Building & Porta” was held on Sunday, August 27 at the Kyoto Station Building and the underground shopping mall Porta in front of Kyoto Station.
The opening event began with a chalk art performance by the Mr./Ms. of the Kyoto University of the Arts Art Club, which captivated the Mr./Ms. of visitors, followed by a greeting from Mr. Daisaku Kadokawa, the Mayor of Kyoto, and a declaration of the opening from Mr. Kima, Chairman of the Kyoto Student Festival Executive Committee.
At the Porta Plaza Stage, the odori and costumes are very popular every time. There were games and quizzes using the Sodefure Collection and local characters, a project by Mr./Ms. Scientific, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Kyoto Kumiyama High School, which conveyed the wonder and fun of science, and a performance by students of the Kyoto Tachibana University calligraphy club based on the mounts drawn by the children of visitors at the booth, and members of the Kyoto Student Festival Executive Committee and visitorsWe had a wonderful time and the project was carried out.
In the plaza in front of the station, Mr./Ms.everyone is busy wearing yukata with Chinese and Korean exchange students to experience and make their favorite booths, such as the Uchimizu project to cool Kyoto Station in the summer, the school festival booth where you can feel the culture of the students closely, the Kyoto Flame Mikoshi Exhibition, and the interaction with local characters and taking photos. There was a line at the Mr./Ms. booth, and the students were so energetic that they could not be defeated by the summer heat.
In particular, the Kyoto Student Music Award, a student music contest that was the centerpiece of this year’s event, was held at Muromachikoji Plaza. With a passion for music that could not be defeated by the midsummer sun, the battle for participation in the Kyoto Student Festival Main Festival was waged, attracting many visitors to the world of student music.
And the long-awaited stage performance by “Heisei KIZOKU” will appear at Porta Plaza and Muromachi Koji Square! A large number of people gathered at each venue, were drawn into the world of dance, and created a wonderful space, and the venue was full of applause.
At the same time as the summer came to a close, the excitement of the 15th Kyoto Student Festival pre-event came to a climax.

What is the “KYO-SENSE Project”?

While learning from the traditional culture that leads to Kyoto, we will review the environment from our daily lives.
It is an eco-activity initiative from the Kyoto Student Festival that proposes a new lifestyle.
We have been active since 2008. The “KYO” in “KYO-SENSE” inherits the tradition of “Kyoto”,
It means that industry, academia, the public, and the local community will “cooperate” by learning from the new technologies of today.
In addition, “SENSE” contains the meaning of the “sensitivity” of young people who studied in Kyoto and live today.
The main focus of these initiatives is to combine wisdom and sensitivity to address environmental issues.
The activities of the “KYO-SENSE” project were highly evaluated.
It has been certified as an eco-event by Kyoto City.

Kyoto Student Festival Executive Committee held a “Partner Exchange Meeting”!

We held our first initiative, “Partner Exchange Meeting”!

_MG_0095 _MG_0042

On Wednesday, May 24, we invited people from the government, companies, local communities, and universities who are indebted to the Kyoto Student Festival to participate in the Kyoto Student Festival, and held a partner exchange meeting on Wednesday, May 24.

At the exchange meeting, for those who came to the event, touch the Kyoto flame! In addition, we reported on the details of this year’s pre-event, the highlights of the October Main Festival (the day of the Kyoto Student Festival), the announcement of the main visual, and the collaboration with project partners. In addition, through the “Kyoto Tea Expo,” one of the cultural projects that the Kyoto Student Festival is collaborating with this year, we attended workshops on “Uji Tea Culture and History” and “Learning how to brew tea,” and since the executive committee members became “Premium Tea Ambassadors,” we also entertained visitors with tea brewed by the executive committee members.

We received words of support and encouragement from the government, companies, local communities, and universities who came to the event, and it seems that the students on the executive committee were even more energized. Thank you very much to everyone who attended.

The first pre-event of the 15th Kyoto Student Festival will be held on Sunday, June 4 at Kyoto Gakuen University’s Uzumasa Campus. Everyone, please come to the venue after inviting each other.
