Garbage separation when using Campus Plaza Kyoto

From April 2016, the rules regarding garbage separation will change in the Campus Plaza Kyoto building.

Currently, only general garbage and cans and PET bottles are separated, but in order to comply with the ordinance of Kyoto City,
We will install a new waste bin for waste plastic and paper waste (miscellaneous paper).

Report: The 16th Kansai Roundtable Meeting of Support Personnel for Students with Disabilities (KSSK)

The 16th Kansai Disability Student Support Officer Roundtable Meeting


On March 3, the Kansai Disability Student Support Officer Roundtable (KSSK) was held at Campus Plaza Kyoto, with the aim of interacting with people in charge of disability support at universities in the Kansai region.
 
For the 16th time, we invited the person in charge of actually providing support from Wakayama University and Ryukoku University, which have developed support systems for students with disabilities over the past few years, to talk about the current situation and issues in the field. In addition, the subcommittees were divided into two groups each on the three themes of “Support Practices,” “Career Support,” and “Support Systems (Guidelines, etc.),” and exchanged opinions on how to support students with disabilities in small groups.

Perhaps due to the influence of the Act on the Elimination of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities that will come into effect in April 28, 70 people participated, exceeding the originally planned capacity of 60 people, including not only disability support staff, but also educational staff and career managers. While the participants received positive comments such as “It was good to hear about the specific development of the system because there were issues with support and maintenance” and “Since it was a subcommittee of the same size university, there were many common issues and it was very helpful,” while others expressed their awareness of future issues, such as “I want to know how to support practical training” and “How can I gain the understanding of faculty and staff?”

We will continue to plan and consider the meeting so that it functions as a place for various universities, departments, and personnel to exchange opinions and interact. The next meeting is scheduled to be held around September 2016. Once the content of the event has been decided, it will be announced on the website of the University Consortium Kyoto.

From June 7 to 9, 2016, the 15th World Conference of Historic Cities will be held in Bad Ischl, Austria, with the participation of historical cities from around the world.
As part of this effort, a conference for students and other young people called the “Youth Forum” will be held, where we will appeal to the merits of the historical city of Kyoto from the perspective of young people, and we will recruit motivated student groups who want to broaden their horizons by interacting with participants from various cities.

【Finished】Kyoto Student Festival 2016 Regional Revitalization Project Call for Affiliated Organizations

Business Overview

Students from Kyoto, who transcend the boundaries of universities, form an executive committee and engage in daily activities with the aim of disseminating “Kyoto as a student city” to society, further revitalizing the Kyoto area, and creating new attractions in collaboration with the business community, the government, the local community, and the university.
After a variety of community exchange activities throughout the year, such as activities to disseminate the original creative odori “Kyoen Sodefure!” and regional cooperation events, a grand festival is held every October as the culmination of these activities.
The University Consortium Kyoto has set the goal of “student growth” in the daily activities of the Student Executive Committee, and supports “student independence” so that students can think and act on their own, and supports the students to make the most of what they have accumulated in the course of their activities for one year since the establishment of the Executive Committee in November every year.

The Kyoto Student Festival has a strong image of a festival centered on odori held in the Okazaki area every October, but in addition to this, we also carry out various activities on a daily basis, such as regional exchange and international exchange, with the aim of “disseminating the charm of Kyoto” and “revitalizing the region.” However, in order to further realize activities in line with these objectives, it is necessary to have a partner who can work hand in hand, not just the Kyoto Student Festival Executive Committee.
Therefore, we will recruit organizations (partners) that want to “enliven the community together with students” and “want to further convey the appeal of the community with the perspectives and power of students” and promote collaborative projects in a single year. However, the Kyoto Student Festival Executive Committee is also limited in terms of budget, time, and capacity, and it is expected that the number of organizations that will be rejected or adopted may be infinitely small. Despite this situation, we are looking forward to seeing organizations that can feel the significance of the “Student City Kyoto” created through the collaboration of industry, academia, and the public community, and apply to realize their goals.

“Research on the Role of the University Consortium Kyoto, a University Collaborative Organization for University Support for Students with Disabilities

Background on the theme

With the reasonable accommodation provisions of the Act on the Elimination of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities scheduled to come into effect in April 2016, the prohibition of discriminatory treatment of persons with disabilities and the prohibition of non-provision of reasonable accommodations will be mandatory at national universities and efforts at private universities.

However, there are many issues, such as the fact that each student’s disability is different, the needs associated with it are diverse, the need for support at the time of enrollment, during school (study and student life), and job hunting, and the need for support across departments within the university.

Currently, each university is accumulating knowledge and examples of reasonable accommodations that should be provided to each university, but there is a limit to the efforts of individual universities alone to respond to a wide variety of disabilities and a wide range of needs, and it is considered necessary to cooperate with the relevant departments of each school and to have a mechanism for sharing information.

Therefore, this time, we will conduct a fact-finding survey of the efforts of the Foundation’s member schools and advanced cases in other countries and regions, identify issues and understand their needs, and use them as clues to consider the role and direction that the Foundation should play in supporting students with disabilities.

Outline of the research sought

(1) Survey on the actual situation of support for students with disabilities at Foundation member schools.
・Examples of initiatives
・Implementation system
・Issues, etc.
(2) Collection of case studies of advanced universities and inter-university collaboration organizations in other countries and regions.
(3) Based on the above, propose specific initiatives that the Foundation, which is an inter-university collaborative organization, should implement in support for students with disabilities.

(1) Establish a collaborative organization that connects university departments that provide support for students with disabilities, external support organizations, companies, and governments.
(2) Development of seminars and training programs for the Foundation’s member members (schools, governments, and economic organizations).

・Surveys and research by individuals or groups will be conducted.

・The researcher (in the case of a group, the principal investigator) must be a full-time faculty member of a university or junior college affiliated with the Foundation.

・Researchers or members of the group shall have a high level of expertise in the content of the designated research topic.

・After adoption, a contract research contract will be concluded between the researcher’s university or junior college and the foundation, and the department in charge of the research and research expenses will be managed by the department in charge of the researcher (in the case of a group). When applying, please coordinate with the department in charge of your university in advance.

 Kyoto Prefecture, the Kyoto High School University Collaborative Research Council, and the High School Consortium Kyoto will carry out a collaboration project for working and shining women.
We invited Mr./Ms. Noriko Nakamura, who is involved in management support such as work-life balance and human resources at Roman Life Co., Ltd., which operates Kyoto Kitayama Malebranche that everyone who loves sweets in Kyoto knows, and Mr./Ms. Kazuko Kuriyama from OMRON Healthcare Co., Ltd., which pursues women’s health and beauty and even launched the “Omron Style Beauty Section”, for high school and university students who will go out into society. He will talk about how he got his current job, his experience so far, and the joy and significance of his work.
