What you can do at a debate seminar

*What is a Parliamentary Debate?

As the name suggests, Parliamentary Debate is a debate that imitates the British parliamentary format, and is widely recognized as a kind of public communication in the United Kingdom and other countries around the world. Since it is a question of convincing oneself of one’s own position, it is attracting attention as a very effective educational method for fostering the comprehensive skills (logical thinking, problem-solving, communication, presentation skills, etc.) necessary for global human resources, which are in demand right now.

【For member schools】Applications are now being accepted for the 2016 “Kyoto World Heritage PBL Course”


Since 2015, the University Consortium Kyoto has been offering “Kyoto World Heritage PBL Courses” as a credit transfer course in collaboration with the Kyoto Cultural Heritage Platform of Tomorrow, which develops PBL in the field of Kyoto’s World Cultural Heritage sites.
A major feature of this course is that it is set in Kyoto’s World Heritage Site, which has cultural and historical significance, and students who go beyond the boundaries of the university can gather and study together through PBL through the credit transfer system. The university town of Kyoto and the historic city of Kyoto. The learning that can only be done in Kyoto is condensed in this subject.
In fiscal 2015, seven courses were offered in partnership with six universities in Kyoto’s six World Heritage sites, and approximately 80 students from 11 universities took the course.
*PBL: PBL (Project Based Learning) is problem-finding and problem-solving learning. Mainly through group learning, students discover problems and propose solutions on their own. Through this process, we aim to develop a variety of abilities and develop human resources who can play an active role in unpredictable times.

Currently, we are currently accepting applications for the establishment of the “Kyoto World Heritage PBL Course” for the 2016 academic year.
If you are a faculty member of the University Consortium Kyoto and are interested in World Heritage Sites or PBL courses, please contact the credit transfer officer of your university (Academic Affairs Division, Academic Affairs Division, etc.) or the credit transfer staff of the University Consortium Kyoto.

About the establishment of courses

To establish a course, please submit the “Application for Establishment of ‘Kyoto World Heritage PBL Courses'” through the department in charge of credit transfer at your university.

About the subsidy system

The University Consortium Kyoto offers the following subsidy system for the establishment and operation of the Kyoto World Heritage PBL course.
・Matching with partner world heritage sites at the time of course opening
・ Subsidy for expenses related to course management (honorarium for guest lecturers, salary of TAs, etc.) (100,000 yen)
・Subsidies for expenses related to various activities in classes such as fieldwork and workshops (up to 70,000 yen)
・Provision of training (lectures) on interviews and presentations by specialized external lecturers
・Dissemination of activities and learning outcomes

Kyoto Student Festival “Kyo Flame Sodefure!” has set a Guinness World Record ™!

[Challenge to the world in Fushimi] Achieved a Guinness World Record ™ with “Kyo Flame Sodefure!”!

The Student Executive Committee of the Kyoto Student Festival Project, which is planned and managed by students and supported by Kyoto’s universities, the business community, the local community, and the government, held a grand community exchange event in cooperation with the Kyoto International Student Film Festival in cooperation with seven shopping districts in the Fushimi area and the Kyoto International Student Film Festival as a pre-event ahead of the Kyoto Student Festival Main Festival scheduled to be held in October this year.

It has been 10 years since the creation of “Kyo Flame Sodefure!”, an original creation of the Kyoto Student Festival, and the number of student odori has exceeded 1,000 every year. So, this year, the 11th year, Kyo Flame Sodetouch! The special version was challenged by the Guinness World Record ™ for the number of people dancing together (Largest Comtemporary Dance) and was successfully recognized.
This large-scale pre-event, which was planned to enliven the Kyoto region with the enthusiasm of the students, was a great success with many visitors attending. We would like to express our gratitude to everyone who came to the event and to everyone who supported us in various ways.

This project, which was the largest pre-event in the history of the Kyoto Student Festival, was successfully completed thanks to the strong support of the seven shopping districts in the Fushimi area and everyone involved, and the students’ hopeful enthusiasm and challenge came to an end in the best possible way with the Guinness World Records ™ certification.
The students engage in a variety of exchange activities on a daily basis with the goal of “disseminating the charm of Kyoto” and “revitalizing the region.” We hope that this kind of exchange through the “Kyo Flame Sodefure!” will become the charm of “Kyoto City of Students” and be disseminated to the world, and above all, we will continue to explore new initiatives with the aim of becoming an organization that will allow the Kyoto Student Festival to take root in the community and further revitalize the city of Kyoto.
The culmination of the Kyoto Student Festival is the main festival, which is held every October. Please look forward to this festival that will be even more powerful due to the success of this event!

2015 SD Seminar Student Public Presentation will be held!


Since 2015, the University Consortium Kyoto has been offering SD seminars with the aim of fostering the next generation of professional staff who will be responsible for the management of universities at each university and junior college, mainly at member universities.
The program, which started with 21 students from 11 member schools and 4 students from 3 non-member schools, ended in July with a total of 7 lectures, leaving only the “Student Public Presentation and Certificate Presentation Ceremony”. In March 2015, the National Council of University Consortiums published the “National University Consortium Case Studies,” which summarizes the examples of efforts by each of the council’s member organizations.
In order to make the efforts of the University Consortium nationwide widely known to the higher education institutions and local governments that are members of each consortium, we have featured 10 examples of pioneering initiatives nationwide in the topics on the front page of the book, and introduced the organizations and initiatives of all 45 member organizations. The International Student Study Kyoto Network will form a “Kyoto International Student PR Team” consisting of current international students studying in Kyoto with the aim of making more people aware of “Kyoto as a university town and a student city” and increasing the number of international students in Kyoto. We are looking for people who can convey the charm of Kyoto from the perspective of international students.

Study Kyoto* is forming the “Kyoto Student Promotion Team” to consist of international students currently studying in Kyoto, with the aim to draw international attention to encourage more students from overseas to come and study in Kyoto.
We are looking for students who are interested in joining the team and supporting our promotional activities.
