【Event Report】Practical Training Experience Exchange Meeting/Externship Course

As a post-learning of the externship (work experience) course, we held a “practical training experience exchange meeting”.
Thank you to everyone who participated.
5~6 seminar classes from different industries gathered and presented their experiences and insights gained through practical training in each seminar class.

It is also possible for students who have completed practical training at various host places to gather and share experiences.
This is the real pleasure of the Kyoto Industry-Academia Collaborative Education Program.
I hope you will make use of the valuable experience you gained in your practical training in your future university life!
We will continue to work toward the further development of industry-academia collaborative education programs.

Reiwa 6th year Gakumachi collaboration project Initiative introduction

We will introduce the efforts of the Reiwa 6th year school town collaboration project.

The “Gakumachi Collaboration Project” is a “learning town collaboration project” in which universities and students and the local community collaborate to recruit and support projects and projects that work on urban development and regional revitalization in Kyoto.
We would like to inform you of the efforts of this year’s selected organizations!

 

【Activities】Kyoto Women’s University, Kyoto University, Ryukoku University “Student Group K-Bond”
On Friday, August 16th, the “Keihoku Bon Odori Festa 2024“, a traditional summer event involving the student group K-Bond, was held, and we visited it!

This is the third year of the student organization K-Bond.
It is an organization consisting of students from Kyoto Women’s University, Ryukoku University, and Kyoto University.

Focusing on the situation where the number of Bon Odori performers is decreasing and is in danger of disappearing due to the rapidly declining birthrate and aging population in the Keihoku region, we are working with local residents to revitalize the area, preserve Bon Odori, and disseminate the appeal of Keihoku Bon Odori from a young perspective targeting young people.                                                The “Keihoku Bon Odori Festa” that we visited this time is held every year on August 16 to inherit Bon Odori, which is one of the cultures of Keihoku. Starting with Tamba Ondo, which is said to be “Joruri Kuzushi”, we will dance in Ondo, where the scenery and characteristics of each region such as Yamakuni, Yuge, Shuzan, and Utsu no Sato-Ondo are sung.
This year, about 12~13 students and working adults participated in the “Keihoku Bon Odori Festa” at the invitation of K-Bond, as well as members of other selected organizations who met at the exchange meeting of the Gakumachi Collaboration.
The gymnasium of the former Keihoku Daiichi Elementary School, the venue, was attended by many people, regardless of age or gender, and it was the first summer festival scene in a long time!

When I asked Mr. Nakano, a member of the student group K-Bond, about “interaction with local people,” he said,
“I regularly visit the Keihoku area, actively participate in Bon Odori practice, community gatherings and events, and enjoy my activities with the cooperation of many local people.

When the Bon Odori season is over, you will be introduced to the Bon Odori of Keihoku from a digital perspective, such as distributing it on YouTube and archiving the Bon Odori, as well as practicing Bon Odori and singing.

Please continue to work hard with the local people to convey the charm of Bon Odori in Keihoku!!

From this fiscal year, we will conduct a new “Malaysia-Penang Cross-Cultural Understanding Training” for university students who belong to member universities of the University Consortium Kyoto.

Features of this training
At Universiti Sains Malaysia, students will attend lectures on culture, history, and ethnicity in English with local students and deepen exchanges with local students.
With the support of local students (buddies), they visit refugee centers and government offices in Penang to conduct fieldwork. On the last day, students will present what they have learned in Penang in English.
At CEMACS, the Marine Centre of Universiti Universiti Malaysia of Sciences, you will observe the plants and organisms that inhabit the waters of Penang and learn about marine surveys and SDGs activities.
We will visit local Japanese companies and hear from local employees about the difficulties and rewards of working overseas, and we will have a question-and-answer session. We will also take a tour of the factory.
Based on the lectures they received at the university, they will explore Georgetown, a world cultural heritage site, and the city in groups. Challenge yourself to a puzzle-solving game targeting Penang Island.
Breakfast is served at the hotel, and lunch is served at four different cuisines (Nyonya, Chinese, Indian and Malay) to learn about the diverse food culture.
For dinner, we will guide you to several nearby hawker centres (food stall villages) and night markets, so you can enjoy Malaysia’s national food cheaply and safely.
Two university consortium staff members will lead the trip from the beginning to the end, so even students who are new to overseas can participate with confidence.

Highlights of Penang
Penang in Malaysia is also very safe, and it is the fourth safest city in Southeast Asia after Singapore. In addition, the cost of living is very cheap, and even in recent years, when the yen is depreciating, it is very cheap at 1/3 of Japan, and you can enjoy lunch and dinner within 300 to 500 yen. In addition, there are three main ethnic groups living in Malaysia, Malay, Chinese, and Indian, but the people are very friendly and many of them are pro-Japan, so you can stay with peace of mind. English is used as a semi-official language after Malay, and since tourists from all over the world visit Penang, English is almost always spoken in public places such as convenience stores and supermarkets. The climate in Penang is very mild, around 25 degrees Celsius in the morning and around 30 degrees Celsius in the afternoon, and there is little precipitation from November to March, making it the best season to visit.

Main training contents:

・Attending lectures in English at Universiti Universiti Sains Malaysia and interacting with local students
* All lectures are conducted in English, but since they are conducted in easy English, there is no problem if you have English skills equivalent to graduating from high school.

The University Consortium Kyoto is pleased to announce that it will hold an IELTS skill improvement seminar for students, faculty and staff belonging to member universities of the University Consortium Kyoto.

This seminar is for students, faculty and staff who have already taken the IELTS test or know what it is. At the seminar, we invited a Japan IELTS expert and focused on two skills that Japan people are not good at, and scored 5.5 in Writing and SpeakingFocusing on the skills and learning methods necessary to take the above, students will learn more about problem trends, grading criteria, and learning methods. This time, students who are selected by lottery from among the participants will participate in a mock interview for Writing English correction and Speaking, and will be able to receive direct guidance from Professor Tsukamoto. Students belonging to member universities, faculty and staff involved in international exchange, and university professors who would like to use this as a hint for their English classes are welcome to participate actively. (I will omit the overview of the entire test.) )
