The 17th Kyoto International Student Film Festival Competition
The 11 films selected for the 17th Kyoto International Student Film Festival Competition were selected from a total of 350 films from 27 countries through a carefully selected jury by the Student Executive Committee. There are many works not only in Japan but also overseas, and the genres of the selected works are varied. Here are the 11 entries that were selected for the competition.

People born and raised in Okinawa refer to “Japan outside of Okinawa” as “inland, Yamato, and mainland” and the people who live there as “Naicha, Yamatunchu, and people from the mainland.” This documentary explores the mental line between “Okinawa” and “Yamato” that can be seen from such a single name. Born in Okinawa but living in the interior, Higa’s camera moves back and forth between “the individual and society,” “the parties and the non-parties,” and the “opposing ideologies” with “fiction and reality,” and the “line” is brought to light.
