Kyoto International Student Film Festival × Mani Kato “Movie Music Mani”

Ahead of the opening of the 19th Kyoto International Student Film Festival (11/26~12/2), the Kyoto International Student Film Festival Executive Committee will hold “Movie Music Mani” on October 25 at T-Joy Kyoto as a pre-event event.
This time’s guest is Mr. Mani Kato, an up-and-coming director who was selected for the 9th Kyoto International Film Festival and currently works on many music videos (MVs) a year. At the event, we will deliver a talk show with his thoughts on the music video and advice for students involved in video production, while watching his video work.

kathomani< biography> Born in Tokyo in 1985. Graduated from Kawaguchi Art School, Waseda University in 2008. After working for a website production company, he became independent as a freelancer in 2012. Currently based in Shibuya, Tokyo, he is the hottest video director in the music industry right now, producing more than 50 music videos a year, both indie and major. He is active in a wide range of fields such as DJing and essay writing. He was also selected for the 9th (2006) Kyoto International Film Festival (film title: “kinkiri”).

The Kyoto International Student Film Festival is the largest international student film festival in Japan, planned and operated mainly by university students from the Kansai region, mainly in Kyoto, and is now in its 19th year. The purpose of this program is to gather independent films produced by students from all over the world, review them by the executive committee, and create opportunities for students to screen them, and to discover human resources and talents who will lead the future of filmmakers.
Historically, Kyoto is a “movie town” that still inherits the cultural heritage of the early days of Japan cinema, and it is also a “university town and student town” where students account for 10% of the population of Kyoto City. The festival aims to revitalize Kyoto by creating a place for international exchange and mutual understanding by discovering and introducing talents who can add new fields to cinema from among the many possibilities of films from around the world.
The operation of the Kyoto International Student Film Festival is made possible by the warm support and cooperation of many people, including sponsoring companies. We are currently looking for people who agree with our student activities as “individual supporters”. The pre-event “One-day Animation Room” for the 19th Kyoto International Student Film Festival will be held on Saturday, September 24th at the Kyoto LoFt store! This event is the first collaboration between Mr./Ms. of Ritsumeikan University’s industry-academia collaboration circle “Ritsumeikan University Loft Club” and the Kyoto International Student Film Festival Executive Committee.

・Students living in Kansai (university, junior college, vocational school)
・ You must like movies and be willing to liven up the film festival together.
・ You must be able to participate in the audition (one of the above dates)
・You must be able to participate for at least 3 days during the festival period (November 26 to December 2).
・ Be able to watch the screening program of the talk show you are in charge of in advance (about 2 hours per program)
・Prior meetings with the person in charge of the festival executive committee in Kyoto City in October or November

Subtitle Translation Volunteer Recruitment 1
The Kyoto International Student Film Festival, which is celebrating its 19th anniversary this year, is looking for volunteer translators who can translate student films (Japanese or English) from Japan and abroad to be screened at the festival.
The translated content will be displayed as subtitles at the screening of the film at the 19th Kyoto International Student Film Festival (Kyoto Cinema) to be held on Saturday, November 26, 2016 ~ Friday, December 2, 2016.

In the past, filmmakers such as Tetsuya Mariko of “Destruction Babies” and Destin Cretton of “Short Term” participated in this festival as young people. Would you like to witness the birth of the future master?

● Those who can work from home and communicate with the festival executive committee from September to October
● Those who can participate in one briefing session (see below) (not limited to those who have experience translating subtitles)
● Proficiency in a foreign language (preferably TOEIC750 points or higher or Eiken Pre-1 level or higher)

The Kyoto International Student Film Festival is the largest international student film festival in Japan and is now in its 19th year. Films and videos directed by a wide range of students, both in Japan and overseas, are solicited in a competition format, and the selected films are screened at the Kyoto International Student Film Festival (held in November) and the best films are awarded.
Historically, Kyoto is a “movie town” that still inherits the cultural heritage of the early days of Japan cinema, and it is also a “university town and student town” where students account for 10% of the population of Kyoto City. The purpose of this festival is to create a place for international exchange and mutual understanding among student filmmakers and filmmakers, as well as to discover and disseminate new talents who will support the film industry in the future from among the many possibilities of student filmmakers.

Application Guidelines

< target>
● University students, graduate students, vocational school students, and working adults who like movies and are interested in translation work
● Those who can work from home and contact the festival executive committee from September to October
● Those who can participate in one briefing session held at Campus Plaza Kyoto
● Proficiency in a foreign language (preferably TOEIC750 or higher or English Proficiency Test Pre-1st Grade or higher)

Content: Lecture on the rules of translation for subtitles (character limit, etc.)
