Kyoto University of Education Uncovering the Potential of Bamboo. Take Friends’ Bamboo Story Bamboo is harvested from the bamboo forests around the Fujimori area where Kyoto University of Education is located. The bamboo is then processed into bamboo lanterns, stilts, bamboo clogs, New Year’s decorations, and bamboo swings, which are displayed and presented at local events. Kyoto Prefectural University Using Local Thinned Wood from Miyama Town, Nantan City for Construction Projects, Community Exchange, and Regional Revitalization

Since 1999, the Miyama Woodworker Workshop has been conducting activities utilizing thinned wood from local forests in Miyama Town, Nantan City. Currently, they are working on constructing an outdoor wooden play area in the Ono District, which was planned by students in 2013. Otani University & Otani University Junior College Participating in the Kyoto Gion Festival Waste Zero Project As core leaders and volunteers, they participate in the Gion Festival’s Waste Zero Project. Kyoto Koka Women’s University & Kyoto Koka Women’s University Junior College Deer Meat Project
~Connecting with the Community through Delicious Activities~
Monthly study sessions are held to deepen understanding of environmental issues. In addition, they develop and experiment with recipes using deer meat. To raise awareness of the damage caused by deer, they organize tasting sessions and offer deer meat dishes at local events to help people understand the taste and uses of venison. PDF

Kyoto Bunkyo Junior College Developing and Promoting Zero Waste Recipes

In collaboration with the Uji City Environmental Department, students from the Department of Food and Nutrition have created 30 zero-waste recipes aimed at reducing waste and eliminating food scraps. They created a “Zero Waste Recipe Book,” which has been published on the city’s website and in municipal newsletters, and they also hold cooking classes for elementary school students in the city. We conducted a survey on heat and health in living spaces as part of a community-contribution special research (ACTR) at Kyoto Prefectural University, with cooperation from residents of paid nursing homes in Kyoto. This project, in collaboration with the Kyoto City Housing Supply Corporation, targets the Nikenchaya apartment complex in Sakyo Ward. Students in the Department of Architecture create concepts and detailed designs for vacant units, and after the renovation, the students live in the renovated apartments and evaluate the improvements. Kyoto Tachibana University Tachibana Healthy Club While we are currently developing on-campus facilities, we mainly carry out outreach activities off-campus. As part of the “Tachibana Healthy Club on the go,” we conduct regular activities at two free spaces in the Yamashina Ward. We provide health checks such as body measurements, bone density testing, vascular age measurement, and brain age measurement, while also gathering feedback on community needs and promoting our activities. Through research on environmental radiation measurements in the region, students acquire measurement skills and investigate the distribution of radiation levels and radioactivity in the natural environment, using this data as a foundation for Nantan City’s disaster prevention plan. Additionally, the data collected from measurements is used to create an environmental radiation map, which is displayed during events such as the Nantan City Comprehensive Disaster Prevention Drill. The map is made public to residents, and emergency monitoring drills are conducted with portable radiation measurement devices for demonstration. PDF
Bukkyo University Student Circle Activities Focused on Regional Disaster Prevention

To improve regional disaster prevention around the campus, we collaborate with the local Rakushii Fire Brigade to conduct fire patrols twice a month on Kyoto City’s Fire-Free Promotion Day, calling out “fire prevention” in the community. We also hold a circle meeting once a month to discuss activity plans, exchanging opinions with not only students and university staff but also government officials and local community representatives. Kyoto University of Foreign Studies Student Community Safety Promotion Team “Sagittarius Team” We create a “Kita Ward Safety and Security Map” indicating dangerous areas around the university and monitor the safe return of students from Kiyohara Elementary School. Additionally, we collaborate with the elementary school and local police station to organize crime prevention workshops, drug abuse prevention events, and activities promoting awareness of expired insurance, bicycle theft prevention, and campus security. This year, in August, a “Dōsenbo Museum” event was held, where participants used local resources to arrange mountain plants and experience making grass flutes. Kyoto City University of Arts Ink Wash Painting Experience at Shimogyo Miyabi Elementary School The Japanese Painting Department of Kyoto City University of Arts conducted an ink wash painting experience for 6th-grade students of Shimogyo Miyabi Elementary School, which opened in April this year. The students practiced the ink wash painting style developed by the renowned cultural figure Sesshu from the Muromachi period. PDF

Kyoto Bunkyo University MJ Study Group: Learning Support for Elementary School Students in Fushimi-ku, Kyoto Since April 2014, in cooperation with community volunteers, university students provide learning support for children, help them with homework, and engage in recreational activities. Kyoto Bunkyo University Community Engagement, Learning, and Solving Regional Issues through Project Courses Approximately 10 classes per year collaborate with local communities, businesses, and organizations to address regional issues.
