Rediscovering the Nakagawa Community Project In the Nakagawa district of Kyoto’s Kita Ward, renowned as the birthplace of the premium “Kitayama Cedar,” we conduct fieldwork with the cooperation of the Nakagawa District Council of Social Welfare. Through interviews, we explore the area’s inherited history, culture, lifestyle, and the thoughts and concerns of its residents. Building on these findings, we actively participate in community welfare activities and plan and implement initiatives such as senior citizen salons. PDF

Urban Development through the Practice of Art

Atago Old Highway Lantern Festival Since 1996, this event has been held annually in late August in collaboration with the Sagano Preservation Association and Jyakko-an Temple, coinciding with the “Thousand Lantern Memorial Service” at Adashino Nenbutsuji Temple. Groups of alumni and students from the university create large lanterns, which are displayed alongside lanterns created in collaboration with local elementary and junior high schools. These are set up along the old Atago Highway, stretching from the first torii gate of Atago Shrine to the Saga Shakado Temple. PDF

Support for the elderly and children

Kyoto Tachibana University Faculty of Nursing “Help Team” Students from the university’s Faculty of Nursing visit elderly residents in the Daigo Nakayama housing complex to assist with tasks they find difficult to manage, such as cleaning high places and bathrooms, replacing screens, moving furniture, and disposing of large garbage items. These tasks are identified through prior interviews with each household. The program is conducted twice annually, in the first and second semesters. PDF

Students plan and announce programs to share information, including the university’s community contribution activities, event details in the Kitayama area, and information for prospective students. The program airs once a month (15 minutes) on Kyoto Sanjo Radio Café. It is also distributed via YouTube and the internet, accessible through the university’s official website. PDF

Doshisha Women’s College of Liberal Arts Activities of the “Doshisha Women’s College Community Development Committee” The committee, launched in July, focuses on student-led initiatives around the theme of community development. Activities include promoting Kyotanabe gyokuro tea to university students, providing English education to local elementary school students through an after-school program, supporting local health initiatives, and preparing for participation in the National University Community Development Policy Forum in Kyotanabe.
