[Panel Discussion]
In recent years, there has been a growing need for institutional research* (IR) in universities, and many universities have begun to engage in business operations based on IR.
On the other hand, although the term IR itself has become more well known, each university is still searching for its own way to use it, and it cannot be said that what can be called a model case has been established.
In this symposium, we will consider how to utilize IR in Japan by inviting faculty and staff in charge of IR at each of the three universities located in Melbourne, Australia, and reporting on their application cases at each university.
*IR (Institutional Research): Refers to an initiative to aggregate and analyze various numerical values and data surrounding a university and use it to improve university management and education.

(Vice Chancellor for Student Engagement, University of Melbourne, Australia / Director, Professor, Centre for Higher Education Research)
In 2009 and 2010, the University Consortium Kyoto conducted FD training for faculty and staff in charge of FD at the Centre for Higher Education Research at the University of Melbourne, Australia, which is known for its research and practice on higher education.
This year, in order to allow more people to experience this FD training, we will invite Mr. Richard James, Director of the Centre for Higher Education Research at the University of Melbourne, who supervised and taught this FD training, to Kyoto and hold a workshop.

Through lectures and workshops, we will think about how to design and manage an organizational FD on campus, and how to do it effectively.
