Can a new model be created for university education, research, and social contribution? – Envisioning a leader in an AI-based and robotized world based on the experience of COVID-19 – Capacity: 1,000 people (Priority capacity for member schools: 600 people) |
---|
In the 2020 academic year, due to the new coronavirus infection (COVID-19), preparations for the start of the new semester were made by individual faculty members to devise ways to manage classes based on the organizational judgment of the affiliated company. The beginning of this can be seen in the Facebook group “A group to share wisdom and information about what university faculty should do and what they want to do in the wake of the impact of the new coronavirus” (renamed from “a group to share wisdom and information about what university faculty should do due to the cancellation of COVID classes” on October 9), which was attended by more than 20,000 members.
In this symposium, based on the experience of COVID-19, we will explore the existence and role of universities in the era of population decline and globalization, as well as VUCA. One year after the Corona disaster, we would like to use this as an opportunity to explore new literacy in and for universities while confirming how collective intelligence through SNS has worked. On February 20 (Sat.), 21 (Sun.), 27 (Sat.), and 28 (Sun.), 2021, the 26th FD Forum “What is a University Again~Beyond the Corona Disaster and into a New Era~” was held online using Zoom.
The FD Forum, hosted by the University Consortium Kyoto, has been held since 1995 with the aim of improving the quality of higher education and disseminating information on FD activities from Kyoto, and this year marks the 26th time.
This time, in the unprecedented situation of the spread of the new coronavirus infection, we have decided to question the nature of “universities” once again and to give us an opportunity to think about “universities” in the next era, and the overall theme is “What is a university ~ Beyond the Corona disaster and into a new era ~”.
On the first day, symposiums, poster sessions, and information exchange sessions were held, and on the second ~ fourth days, breakout sessions on 11 diverse themes were held.
A total of 693 university faculty members and educators from all over Japan gathered to share reports and practices on research results for improving education, and to engage in lively discussions.
On the first day, at the symposium “Can a New Model Be Born for University Education, Research, and Social Contribution?~Envisioning a Leader of an AI-Powered and Robotized World Based on the Experience of COVID-19~,” Dr. Yoshihiro Okamoto (Professor, Faculty of Law, Kwansei Gakuin University) and Dr. Koichi Sugimori (Department of Higher Education Development and Support, Institute of International Fundamental Education, Kanazawa University) Associate Professor) (Coordinator: Dr. Hironori Yamaguchi (Professor, Institute for the Promotion of Common Education, Ritsumeikan University)).
In the online presentation of the poster session held on the same day, a total of 16 examples of educational practices were presented by the member schools of the University Consortium Kyoto. A total of 164 people participated, and there were lively interactions, such as active questions.
On the 2nd ~ 4th day, we set up 11 subcommittees on various themes that are of high interest to university educators.
This year’s event was held online for the first time, and in both projects, active discussions were held between speakers and participants by utilizing Zoom chat and breakout room functions.
