Credit Transfer System

Business Overview

The credit transfer system is a system in which credits for courses earned at other universities and junior colleges are considered to have been earned as credits for one’s own university. The University Consortium Kyoto has been operating this system since 1994, when its predecessor, the Kyoto University Center, was established, and has now concluded agreements with approximately 45 member universities, and many students are enrolled in this program. In fiscal 2015, PBL (Project
Based Learning) learning methods have been newly established to provide courses unique to Kyoto.

Distinctive Subjects

Plaza Recommended Courses

“Plaza Recommended Courses” are distinctive courses offered at Campus Plaza Kyoto that were developed in cooperation with the University Consortium Kyoto and the university for credit transfer. It features practical course content that incorporates relay lectures and fieldwork by guest lecturers such as multiple faculty members and practitioners.
In 2015, we started the “Kyoto World Heritage PBL Course” and in 2020, we started the “Kyoto Museum PBL Course,” so you can experience valuable learning unique to Kyoto. For details, please refer to the syllabus and take the subjects you are interested in.

Kyoto World Heritage PBL Courses

Among the recommended courses at the Plaza, the “Kyoto World Heritage PBL Course” is a course that develops PBL in the field of Kyoto’s World Heritage Sites. Kyoto World Heritage PBL Courses are taught at each university and tomorrow in Kyoto.
It was established in 2015 in cooperation with the Cultural Heritage Platform and the University Consortium Kyoto.
PBL(Project Based
Learning) refers to problem-finding and problem-solving learning. Mainly through group learning, students discover problems on their own and present solutions. Through this process, we aim to cultivate a variety of abilities and develop human resources who can play an active role in unpredictable times.

Kyoto Museum PBL Courses

Among the courses recommended by the Plaza, the “Kyoto Museum PBL Course” is a course that develops PBL in the field of museums in Kyoto. The Kyoto Museum PBL course has been offered since 2020 in collaboration with each university, Kyoto City, and the University Consortium Kyoto. Taking advantage of Kyoto’s cultural capital, we will develop human resources who can demonstrate leadership in solving problems by utilizing teamwork by tackling various issues while learning about Kyoto’s fascinating culture in the field of various museums (museums) that gather in Kyoto.

Recommended courses for lower year students

The recommended courses for younger students are mainly for junior college students (junior college students, first- and second-year students of four-year universities, and first-, second-, and third-year students of six-year universities) with the aim of making them as attractive as possible by offering courses that are in high demand in the summer or on Saturdays. (However, if there is enough capacity, students in the third year of a four-year university or higher, and students in the fourth year or higher of a six-year university can also take the course.) Specifically, the courses are offered under three themes: (1) career courses, (2) foreign language courses, and (3) connection and introductory education courses.

Overseas Training Subjects

Learning at university is not limited to lectures and exercises in the classroom. Under the credit transfer system, we also offer overseas research courses in which students conduct training overseas for a certain period of time and are recognized as credits for the results of their training. Unlike a simple overseas trip, this program is a part of your university studies, and you can deepen the knowledge you have gained in the field before you leave for the overseas training.

Teacher Education Courses

Kyoto University of Education offers courses that are directly linked to obtaining a teaching license. In the past, teachers could only take courses at their home university, but now they can be taken with credit transfer as a “second option.” From the 2020 academic year, in addition to the on-campus courses that have been offered on the Kyoto University of Education campus, teacher training courses will be offered as plaza courses in the lecture hall of Campus Plaza Kyoto in the form of intensive lectures on Sundays. Some universities offer guidance on teaching profession courses, so please consult with your university’s teaching license office in advance when applying.
