Business Overview
This program is a short-term overseas training program that will start in 2024 as a program that is easy for those who have studied abroad, as well as those who are thinking about studying abroad in the future, and those who have never experienced overseas before.
Due to recent changes in the socio-economic situation, the cost of studying abroad in Europe, the United States, and the Oceania region is high, and an increasing number of students are giving up on studying abroad.
On the other hand, learning, exchange, and various experiences abroad during your student years will not only improve your language skills, but also improve your understanding of different cultures and diversity, and improve your ability to think for yourself and solve problems, which will give you valuable experiences in your future career development and life planning.
Based on these considerations, the University Consortium Kyoto has decided to conduct the “Malaysia-Penang Cross-Cultural Understanding Training” in March 2025 in Penang, Malaysia, where the country is relatively safe, has a low cost of living, and has a large number of friendly pro-Japanese families.
In Malaysia, there are three main ethnic groups (Chinese, Malays, and Indians) who live together and use English as a semi-official language. Penang George Town, which you will actually visit, has flourished as a key point of east-west trade since ancient times, and its historic townscape is registered as a World Heritage Site. Universiti Sains Malaysia, which is the main place for the training, is one of the leading national universities in Malaysia, and students will receive lectures on Malaysian history, culture, ethnicity, etc., and go out for fieldwork. At that time, local students accompany them as buddies, further promoting cross-cultural understanding and exchange. All lectures are conducted in English, but since they are conducted in easy English equivalent to graduating from high school, they will give a presentation in English about what they learned in Penang on the last day with advice from their buddies.
We are conducting and planning this event as a way to gain valuable experience during your school days, so please take this opportunity to participate!
The briefing session on the 2024 Malaysia-Penang Cross-Cultural Understanding Training is scheduled to be held online. For details, please see the implementation overview page.
