2021 The 24th Kyoto International Student Film Festival

Business Overview

The Kyoto International Student Film Festival is the largest international student film festival in Japan, planned and operated mainly by university students from the Kansai region, mainly in Kyoto. The purpose of this program is to gather independent films produced by students from all over the world, review them by the executive committee, create opportunities for students to screen them, and to discover human resources and talents who will lead the future of cinema.
Historically, Kyoto is a “movie town” that still inherits the cultural heritage of the early days of Japan cinema, and it is also a “university town and student town” where students account for 10% of the population of Kyoto City. The festival aims to revitalize Kyoto by creating a place for international exchange and mutual understanding by discovering and introducing talents who can add new fields to cinema from among the many possibilities of films from around the world.

Pre-Event & Collaborative Planning

[Pre-event]

Barrier-free screening: Sunday, November 28
A barrier-free screening was held as a pre-event for the Kyoto International Student Film Festival. In the first barrier-free screening of the festival, we produced audio guides and barrier-free subtitles for the films that had been submitted in the past, so that more people could enjoy them.

【Collaborative Planning】

< Kyoto University Hospital Video Distribution> Continuing from last year, the Kyoto International Student Film Festival has been distributing past selected films selected by the executive committee so that inpatients can watch them from each hospital bed monitor at Kyoto University Hospital. < Photo Contest > photo contest was held on the official Instagram and Twitter accounts. We set the theme “#映画のようなワンショット” related to the film and solicited submissions. Through the use of social media, we took on the challenge of creating a place where the younger generation would be interested in student-directed films and films.
< to express our gratitude to the staff who cooperated > the 30th Wellness Art Exhibition, and to hope that patients would enjoy it, we exhibited our work at the “Creation Square Art Exhibition” sponsored by the Kyoto University Wellness Research Association. Due to the influence of the new coronavirus infection, it was difficult to interact with each other, so I took on the challenge of producing it as an executive committee member in the hope that people would know about this film festival through the works.
