FY2019

Outline of the event

Main

2040 The shape of the university and the shape of the staff

The environment surrounding higher education in Japan continues to change at an unprecedented speed, including the acceleration of economic and social globalization and changes in the industrial structure accompanied by rapid progress in the AI and IOT fields, while the population of 18-year-olds, who are the main students who go on to higher education, is further decreasing. It is extremely important to develop human resources who can contribute to the maintenance and development of a sustainable society while responding to such changes in the environment, and institutions of higher education are increasingly required to fulfill this role.
In March 2017, the Central Council of Education received a consultation from the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology on the “Future Vision for Higher Education in Japan,” and in November 2018, the “Grand Design for Higher Education (Report) for 2040” was issued. With the aim of providing higher education that can flexibly respond to changes, the report is broadly summarized in six items, including “Prospects for 2040 and the Vision of Higher Education,” and specific measures are being considered in the future.
At this SD Forum, I would like you to think about and discuss the various issues and issues facing the era together, taking into account these national trends and imagining the environment in which universities will be located in 2040.
