Implementation Report

Since 2003, the SD Forum has been held annually as a forum for exchanging opinions through keynote speeches and breakout sessions with the aim of improving the skills of university staff and exchanging information. The forum, which will be held for the 22nd time in 2024, was held face-to-face for the first time in five years under the overall theme of “Upgrading and Specializing University Staff: As Members of an Education and Research Implementation Organization.” For the keynote speech, Mr. Fumiki Kurabe (Visiting Professor, Otemon Gakuin University, Visiting Professor, Information Management Innovation Professional University) was invited to give a lecture on the theme of “Thinking about the abilities required of university staff in the future.” In the second half of the session, two subcommittees were held on the themes of “Experiential Staff Theory ~To Have Aspirations, Continue to Take on Challenges, and Build a Good Career~” and “Advancement of University Staff Based on the Analysis Results of Various Surveys.” Participants in the keynote speech commented that it was an opportunity to rethink the “sophistication of university staff” and that the lecture was easy to understand and persuasive because it was based on concrete examples and data. In the two subcommittees, lectures were given on the advancement of staff from different perspectives, such as approaches based on concrete practical experience and theoretical approaches verified based on evidence, as well as on specialists, and both received positive feedback.
The number of participants was 126, up from 92 last year (held online). As for the content of the event, 95% of the respondents answered that they were “satisfied” or “somewhat satisfied,” indicating that they were able to set an appropriate theme in the current university situation, and that it generally contributed to improving the quality of the participants. One of the reasons for the increase in the number of participants was that it was the first face-to-face event in five years, and in response to requests from last year’s participants, the event was changed from an all-day event to a half-day (afternoon to evening) event.
The information exchange meeting was also very exciting, with about half of the participants attending.
In the next fiscal year, the SD Training Committee will continue to hold discussions and continue to consider the provision of programs on themes of high interest in line with current trends, as well as the review of FD and SD projects listed in Stage 6.
