The tournament was held on Sunday, December 14th.

This year’s 21st annual conference was held at the Wagankan Hall on Ryukoku University’s Fukakusa Campus for the third consecutive year, starting in 2023. Of the 79 presentation groups that passed the presentation qualification screening, 77, excluding two groups that declined, presented their research on a wide range of urban policy topics in 10 subcommittees. Each subcommittee was attended by two judges and designated questioners.
This conference also welcomed public participation, and many attendees, including government and university officials, listened intently.
Following each presentation, a “Participatory Gaku-City Collaboration Project Report Session” was held, attended by approximately 50 students, before the awards ceremony. Three organizations certified through the project presented their initiatives, followed by lively Q&A sessions.
The awards ceremony was held in Room B201 on the second basement floor, which can accommodate a maximum of 450 people, with many students standing. Cheers and applause rang out each time a winner was announced. During the Research Encouragement Award presentations, the students’ joyful acceptance speeches and the joyous group photo poses on stage demonstrated that the conference was a learning and rewarding experience for the presenters.
Participant surveys following the conference revealed many comments about the ways in which students felt they had grown and the significance of the conference, such as, “It was very informative to see such high-level presentations,” “Having our work evaluated by people outside the university helped us identify many areas for improvement,” and “It gave us an opportunity to think about what we should do from preparation to delivery, and what a good presentation is for communicating with others.”
This year’s conference also saw many students listen intently to the presentations in each subcommittee until the very end, and with a large number of general attendees, it was an extremely fulfilling conference overall.
