Business Overview
In a rapidly changing environment surrounding universities, the way in which universities are managed and operated has become important, and the role of university staff has become very important. In order to adapt to such an environment, various projects are being carried out to improve the qualifications of university staff, including management and operation, as well as education and research support. The
SD Forum takes up themes that are attracting increasing interest in the SD field, and aims to improve the capabilities of university staff and provide a forum for information exchange beyond the boundaries of universities through case reports and opinion exchanges in keynote speeches and subcommittees.
Event Outline
The 2017 amendments to the University Establishment Standards and the School Education Act upgraded the duties and roles of staff from “handling” to “performing” and from “engaging” to “managing.” The 2022 amendments to the University Establishment Standards have unified the teaching and research implementation organizations, and the scope of work has been “expanded” to include education and research. In order to fully fulfill their roles, staff are often required to be more advanced and specialized. However, the definitions of “advancement” and “specialization” are vague, and different commentators often point in different directions. Today, I believe no one would disagree that “advancement” and “specialization” are necessary, but I have to say that the concrete image is quite blurred. Now that the new University Establishment Standards have started, I would like to think and discuss together the direction and concrete image of the advancement and specialization of staff.
