FY2022

Business Overview

As an organizational initiative to help faculty members improve and improve their teaching content and methods, the University Consortium Kyoto has been promoting FD activities in the Kyoto area together with member schools since 1995, shortly after its establishment.

In 2019, we launched the “Kyoto FD Exchange Meeting” as a place for university faculty and staff to share ideas and concerns related to FD beyond the boundaries of their affiliated universities, and to exchange on various themes related to FD.

The 2022 Kyoto FD Exchange Meeting will be held a total of three times under the unified theme of “A place for university education in the post-corona era”.

Session 1 “Changing Trends of Applicants’ Aspirations and Recent Entrance Examination Topics”
The 2022 Kyoto FD Exchange Meeting will be held under the unified theme of “a place for university education in the post-corona era,” and this will be the first time it has been held.

In this first installment, we will consider university education from the perspective of entrance examinations.
In the face of the evolution and spread of AI, globalization, and the decline in the working-age population due to the declining birthrate, drastic reforms are underway in high school and university education and the university entrance examination that connects them in order to develop human resources who can respond to unpredictable times.
At the 1st Kyoto FD Exchange Meeting in 2022, a lecturer from the Kawai Juku Group will be invited to organize and tell you about the topics and trends of university entrance examinations in the last five years or so, how the common test will change in the entrance examination for new courses from the 2025 academic year, the summary of the 2022 entrance examination, and the latest trends in the 2023 entrance examination for Kawai Juku general mock examinees.

Why don’t you work with faculty and staff from other universities to think about “the future of university education based on the latest entrance examination information” beyond the boundaries of the university?
This is not a “training session” but an “exchange meeting”, so please feel free to join us.

A place for university education in the post-corona era
Session 3 “Thinking about active learning in the post-corona era”
Amid the changes in the environment caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the teaching methods at universities have had to change drastically. In face-to-face classes, it can be said that there was less physical and psychological burden on active learning. However, since 2020, we have had to consider using remote online software, securing classrooms where social distancing can be ensured, and conducting active learning with as little contact as possible.
At this exchange meeting, we are planning to share information about the practice of active learning in the Corona disaster at Mr./Ms.’s university. Even in the post-corona era, active learning-type classes will be increasingly required.
Why don’t you go beyond the boundaries of the university and think about the future of active learning with the faculty and staff of other universities?

Implementation Report

The 2022 Kyoto FD Exchange Meeting was held three times in person and online (Zoom meetings) under the unified theme of “a place for university education in the post-corona era.”
The first session was held face-to-face under the theme of “Changing Trends in Applicants’ Aspirations and Recent Entrance Examination Topics” as an opportunity to think about how the criteria for choosing a university have changed for students over the past three years of the coronavirus pandemic. After Mr. Masaru Okamoto (General Manager, West Japan Sales Department, KEI Advance Co., Ltd., Kawai Juku Group) gave a topic, the participants were divided into groups, compiled questions and opinions, raised issues and questions not only in the post-corona era, but also in the changing entrance examination environment as high school-university connection reform progresses, and in a situation where competition is expected to ease, and information was shared and opinions exchanged.
The second session was held online under the theme of “Thinking about Education from the Perspective of Upgrading University English Classes: From the Practice of Project-Based English Programs,” and was held online as an opportunity to think about DX in education, which has become an increasingly hot topic due to the coronavirus pandemic. After Mr. Shuhei Kimura (Associate Professor, Faculty of Life Sciences, Ritsumeikan University / Deputy Dean, Faculty of Education) gave a case study report on the project-based English program in Ritsumeikan University’s English classes based on data, the participants were divided into groups and discussed “What is DX in education in the first place?” and “What is the upgrade of faculty members necessary for DX?” Information was shared and opinions were exchanged.
The third session was held online under the theme of “Thinking about Active Learning in the Post-Corona Era” as an opportunity to think about teaching methods at universities, which had to undergo major changes amid the changes in the environment caused by the Corona disaster, and the practice of active learning with as little contact as possible. After receiving a case study report from Ms. Hitomi Asada (Associate Professor, Department of Early Childhood Education, Huacho Junior College) on active learning methods in the Department of Early Childhood Education at Huacho Junior College, we shared information and exchanged opinions on teaching methods, tools (apps) used, and ingenuity based on their advantages and disadvantages.
In the question of satisfaction in the participant questionnaire, the combined score of “satisfied” and “somewhat satisfied” was 100% in all the implementation times, indicating that there was a high level of interest in the purpose and theme of this project.
Based on the opinions received from participants in the next fiscal year and beyond, we will continue to plan and consider the exchange meeting with the aim of making it even more fulfilling.
