FY2023

Business Overview

In the 2018 academic year, the name of “Kyoto FD Executive School” was changed to “University Executive School”.

Since its establishment in 1995, shortly after its establishment, the University Consortium Kyoto has been promoting FD activities in the Kyoto region together with member universities as an organizational initiative for faculty members to improve and enhance their teaching content and methods.
This project has been held since 2010 as a study group for university executives, including the presidents of member schools.
In the meantime, SD became mandatory due to the revision of the Standards for the Establishment of Universities in April 2017, and while university executives are required to provide training not only for FD but also for university management in general, the name of this project was changed to “University Executive School” in 2018 in order to cover not only FD but also a wide range of themes related to university management in general.

substance
theme “In Promoting Teaching and Learning Management
~Thinking about who is curriculum management for from the perspective of various stakeholders~”
summary At the end of the 20th century, I intuitively sensed the movement of university change around the world to incorporate strategic thinking into the structure of education, research, and management. As an individual who has been trying to create a new system through trial and error since then, I would like universities to move from quality assurance that satisfies external guidance to focusing on their own quality development. As an example of a solution to this problem, we will introduce the concept and development of learning outcomes-based curriculum management and strategic business management that will bring about a change in the management of learning goals, activity methods, progress analysis, result evaluation, and outcome evaluation.

In 1978, he withdrew from the doctoral program at Kyushu University. He retired in 2019 after working as an assistant at Kyushu University, as an assistant, associate professor, and professor at the University Entrance Examination Center, as a professor at the Media Education Development Center, as a professor at Nagoya University, as a professor at Meijo University, and as a professor at Otemon Gakuin University. Currently, he serves as a part-time board member of Aichi Konan Gakuen, and runs an educational consulting business (representative of U&C Strategy) as an individual in order to return the methodological knowledge gained from his management and education research activities and experience at multiple universities, including national and private universities, to the organizational field.

Implementation Report

On Saturday, June 24, 2023, the University Consortium Kyoto held the “2023 University Executive School”.
This year, we continued to hold the event online (face-to-face only for the executive staff of our member universities) so that the executive staff of universities and junior colleges, as well as faculty and staff of higher education institutions who are interested in the theme, could participate.
On the day of the event, the presidents of member universities and junior colleges, as well as university executives and higher education institutions from all over Japan, were welcomed, and Mr. Terumasa Ikeda, Representative of U&C Strategy and a board member of Aichi Konan Gakuen, gave a lecture on the theme of “Promoting Teaching and Learning Management ~Thinking about Curriculum Management for Whom and Thinking from the Perspectives of Various Stakeholders~”.
In the lecture, he said that he was able to put strategic thinking into practice after meeting the top management. It is necessary for the top management to accept strategic mapping as a way of thinking rather than as a technique, and the flow of the teaching and learning management guidelines is not internal quality assurance, but a request for external quality assurance. It is necessary to manage the curriculum by the university’s own value-added management. He introduced the nine steps to this goal and the framework of the thinking framework of the strategic curriculum. On top of that, he advocated the idea that “staff management skills are necessary for the promotion of strategic curriculum maps” and that “future faculty personnel will be required by researchers to be professionals who can return research results to education and society.” He also concluded that training is important, but recruitment is also important in strategic curriculum management.
Participants commented, “I was able to hear valuable stories based on my long experience in education, and it was very helpful to hear the knowledge of the top management,” and “As the person in charge of the medium-term management plan and internal quality assurance, it was very interesting and I would like to refer to it when considering it in the future.”
