Since last year, Ryukoku University has started a project called “Research on the Learning Support Environment for Students” to verify whether the learning support environment on campus is sufficiently in place and functioning from both physical and institutional aspects. In addition to giving an overview of these initiatives, he will talk about what he noticed from the verification results and what he can improve.

Otani University says that the response to a certain student led to the spread of a cross-departmental support system with the Student Support Department as a HUB.
Based on several examples from Otani University, we will exchange information and share issues on what kind of support each organization should focus on, how to realize appropriate support, and how to provide learning and learning support in the future, as various responses are required due to the diversity of the university.

[Panel Discussion]
How to support the diverse student population that current higher education accepts is an urgent issue facing many universities and junior colleges.
As universities and junior colleges are required to respond in various ways due to the diversity of these programs, it is essential to systematically organize the current student support system and to understand the students and the environment in which they are placed.
After that, we will discuss what kind of support system and mechanism should be set up depending on the type, scale, and environment of each school, and how to support students and learning in the future with specific case studies.

Implementation Report

On Monday, November 12, 2012, the University Consortium Kyoto held the “2012 1st Kyoto FDer School: Student Support and Learning Support ~What is Student Support for Expanding Learning?~”.

Despite the fact that the event was held on a weekday evening, 14 participants were welcomed, and after a presentation by Professor Takeshi Hasegawa of Ryukoku University, the group discussion was divided into two tables. Various information was exchanged and shared on the status of the provision and improvement of the learning support environment at the university.

On Monday, December 10, the University Consortium Kyoto held the “2nd Kyoto FDer Juku 2012: Student Support and Learning Support ~What is Learning Support to Support Learning?~”.

Despite the fact that the event was held on a weekday evening, 15 participants were welcomed, and after presentations by Ms. Hiroshi Fukui and Ms. Junko Hamaguchi of the Student Support Department of Otani University Junior College, the group discussion was divided into two tables.
Various information was exchanged and shared on the status of the student support and learning support system at the university, the challenges they are facing, and the measures to deal with them.

On Saturday, January 26, the University Consortium Kyoto held the “2012 3rd Kyoto FDer School: What is the Student Support × Learning Support We Need Now?”

Ninety-four participants were invited to the Avanti Hibiki Hall of Ryukoku University, and a report was given on the systematic organization of “student support and learning support,” which is attracting a lot of attention in the universalization of higher education environments, understanding of students and the environment in which they are placed, and examples of support that are actually being implemented. The meeting was held in the form of a symposium on how to set up a mechanism.

In the panel discussion, which was moderated by the Chief Researcher, Associate Professor Sugie of the University of Tsukuba, who gave a keynote report, Dr. Hirose of Kyoto Junior College of Economics, who gave a case study, Dr. Kano of Doshisha University, and Mr. Saito of Kyoto University of Foreign Studies, took the stage.

Based on this discussion, the University Consortium Kyoto will continue to collect and provide information on “student support and learning support.”
