Business Overview

In the 2018 academic year, the name of “Kyoto FD Executive School” was changed to “University Executive School”.

As an organizational initiative for faculty members to improve and improve their teaching content and methods, the University Consortium Kyoto has been promoting FD activities in the Kyoto region together with member universities since its establishment in 1995.
One of them, the Kyoto FD Executive School, is a study group for university executives, including the presidents of member schools, and has been held since 2010.

Under these circumstances, SD became mandatory due to the revision of the Standards for the Establishment of Universities in April 2017, and while university executives are required to provide training not only for FD but also for university management in general, the name of this project was changed to “University Executive School” in 2018 in order to cover not only FD but also a wide range of themes related to university management in general.

2018 University Executive School

This time, Professor Katsumi Arase of the Faculty of Letters, Otani University, will give a lecture titled “Aims of the Reform of the High School-University Connection ~Based on the Revision of the Course of Study for High Schools~”.
Currently, studies are underway to materialize the “reform of the high school-university connection.” In particular, the reform of university entrance examinations, including the Common Test for University Admissions, has attracted strong attention from society. However, the “reform of the connection between high school and university” is only an integrated reform of high school education, university entrance selection, and university education, and when considering reform of university admissions selection and university education, it is essential to grasp the trends in high school education and to take the perspective of “what kind of skills should be acquired by a single young person.”
We hope that the executive teams of member universities and junior colleges will use this as a reference when considering educational reform and admissions selection reform at each school, and we look forward to the participation of many of you.

Summary The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) states that “in the reform of the high school-university connection, it is extremely important to promote integrated reforms that ensure the development and evaluation of the three elements of academic ability through high school education, university education, and university entrance examination, and we are steadily advancing efforts toward these reforms” (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology website). In March 2018, the new course of study for high schools was announced. Based on the contents, I would like to think about what the reform of the high school-university connection is aimed at.

After serving as the principal of Horikawa High School in Kyoto City and as the director of educational planning in the Kyoto City Board of Education, he assumed his current position in 2014. He has served as a member of the Elementary and Secondary Education Subcommittee of the Central Council of Education, the Special Subcommittee on Career Education and Vocational Education, etc., a member of the High School-University Connection Reform Team of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, the chief of the Working Group on the Study of “Basic Diagnosis of Learning for High School Students,” and a member of the National University Education and Research Evaluation Committee of the National University Educational Research Evaluation Organization.

Implementation Report

On Saturday, June 23, 2018, the University Consortium Kyoto held the “2018 University Executive School School.”
This year, we will focus on the “high school-university connection reform” that is currently under consideration, and with the aim of deepening the understanding of the university executives and the trends in high school education reform, we asked Professor Katsumi Arase of the Faculty of Letters, Otani University, who is the head of the high school-university collaboration promotion office of the Foundation, to give a lecture on the The Aim of the High School and University Connection Reform ~Based on the Revision of the Course of Study for High Schools~” was given by 38 people, including the President and Vice President, who participated.

In the lecture, he explained how high school education will change in the future, how it is about to change, and how it is changing, while looking at the next high school course of study announced in March 2018. In addition, he presented an important perspective in considering the curriculum to develop the abilities of each individual and in conducting daily education, and explained the importance of constantly questioning the current situation of one’s own university from the perspective of crisis management. At the end of the lecture, he said, “Of the three elements of academic ability, the desire to learn is something that people are born with, and it is being questioned whether there is an educational curriculum in place that awakens the dormant desire to learn.”

It was a lecture that conveyed the teacher’s passion for education.”
