The purpose of the University Consortium Kyoto’s training program is not only to improve the English proficiency of faculty and staff at member schools who can respond to such times, but also to > their awareness of language learning in the future.

Assuming a campus tour for foreign visitors and international students, students will learn about basic greetings, facility guidance, and interaction on the university campus through role-play and pair work. It is also useful for teaching students who are in charge of campus tours. |

Cross-Cultural Understanding and Communication in English at University Cross-cultural Manners and English Communication in Higher Education Lecturer: Mikako Nishikawa, Kyoto University
For staff involved in international education-related work at universities. Mannerisms and ways of communicating vary greatly from culture to culture. In this course, in order to respond to the increase in the number of international students and foreign researchers, we will deepen our understanding of cultural diversity, communication styles, business etiquette, etc. Through role-play and PBL (problem-solving exercises) in various settings, we aim to improve communication skills in English. |

Students will understand the structure and phrases of basic English email writing, and learn formatting, tone, style, and syntax in various situations such as requests, confirmations, refusals, announcements, and reminders. You will also learn how to practice conversation when you meet in person after the email. |
