Seminar on Sharing Examples of Internationalization Initiatives by Member Universities

As part of the project to support the globalization of faculty and staff, the Kyoto International Business Department of the University Consortium is working to share examples of efforts by member universities for internationalization.

We are pleased to announce that the International Student Study Kyoto Network (Secretariat: University Consortium Kyoto International Business Department) is planning to hold a member exchange seminar on the theme of “Acceptance of Students from Kyiv, Ukraine”, but at the same time, it will be positioned as a seminar to share examples of efforts for internationalization by the Consortium of Universities Kyoto member universities.

【Theme】

“Support for the acceptance of Ukrainian and Kyiv students, including governments, companies, schools, etc. ~With the voices of those who have actually evacuated~”

Currently, various companies, organizations, schools, etc. in Kyoto City are providing various forms of support to people evacuated from Ukraine, including Kyiv City. The University Consortium Kyoto and the International Student Study Kyoto Network are participating as advisory organizations in the “Ukraine-Kyiv Kyoto Citizen Support Network,” which is organized by Kyoto City, the Kyoto City International Association, and the Kyoto Kyiv Exchange Association.

On the day of the event, we are planning a roundtable discussion with one Ukrainian about his evacuation experience and representatives of various support groups. We hope that this seminar will not only lead to further promotion of support for students in Kyiv, Ukraine, etc., but will also deepen the understanding of students facing various difficulties around the world, and will be of some help as an opportunity to open up many perspectives, such as further raising the international awareness of each member.

2023 Internship Acceptance Companies and Organizations for International Students

International Student Study Kyoto Network (Secretariat: University Consortium Kyoto)

Since 2016, the International Student Study Kyoto Network (Secretariat: Kyoto International Business Department, University Consortium) has been conducting an internship program for international students living in the Kyoto area. In this internship program, we are looking for companies and organizations that can accept international students. We are looking forward to receiving applications from Kyoto companies and organizations that are interested in hiring international students in the future.

Purpose and Features

This program provides opportunities for international students living in the Kyoto area who are aiming to find employment at Japan companies to deepen their understanding of the business contents and attractiveness of companies and organizations in the Kyoto area (especially mid-tier enterprises and SMEs/organizations) through work experience, and aims to promote their motivation to hire and find employment through mutual understanding between international students and companies and organizations, and to establish international students in the Kyoto area after employment. For host companies and organizations, there are various benefits such as revitalizing the company by accepting international students, accumulating experience in accepting foreign employees, and PR to international students. In addition, for international students, understanding the corporate culture and work style in Japan will help them acquire the ability to find employment and play an active role in Japan.

Eligible companies

Approximately 40 companies and organizations with headquarters, branch offices, offices, etc. in Kyoto Prefecture that can accept international students in Kyoto Prefecture

* We are looking forward to receiving applications from companies and organizations that agree with the “Appendix: Ideas that we would like to see accepted by accepting companies and organizations”.

*Please consider accepting 1~2 international students per company or organization. If you are not matched with an international student, we will not ask you to accept them unreasonably.

Eligible International Students

International Students in the Kyoto RegionInternational Students Enrolled in Study Kyoto Network Member Schools

* Selection and matching will be conducted by interview.

* For participating international students, we will check their Japanese language proficiency and motivation to work in Japan, and conduct preliminary training on business etiquette and compliance before dispatching.

Period of employment

You will be provided with the opportunity to experience work during the period of early August ~ late September 2023 (during the summer vacation of students and students).

* For details such as the actual employment period of international students, such as activities outside the status of residence, please consult with the person in charge of the project.

Acceptance Criteria

(1) Paid internship

This is a paid internship based on a worker dispatch contract. As a general rule, we ask that you provide work experience opportunities of 80 hours or more.

*International students are allowed to work within the scope of “permission to engage in activities other than those permitted under the status of residence (28 hours per week)” during the class period, but can work up to 40 hours per week during the summer vacation. Please note that the summer vacation period varies depending on the school to which the international student belongs, so please contact us as appropriate

Burden of companies and organizations: Dispatch fee (¥1,190 per hour), student transportation fee (actual expenses up to ¥1,000 per day) * Once the dispatched international student is confirmed, a worker dispatch contract will be concluded with the management contractor (dispatch company) of this program. As a result, various procedures such as social insurance are not required by the host company or organization, and the procedure is extremely simple compared to direct employment by the host company or organization.

(2) Unpaid internship

This is a project implemented as an agreement-type internship in which an agreement regarding the acceptance of internships is concluded between the host company or organization and the International Student Study Kyoto Network Secretariat. During the implementation period, we ask that you provide work experience opportunities for at least 3 days and 40 hours in principle. In addition, we also ask that you set up no more than 30% of the time for the entire program for the purpose of understanding the company and the profession for the purpose of engaging in production activities.

Burden of companies and organizations: In principle, there is no such expense, but please bear expenses such as transportation expenses during the period.

Flow after application by the host company / organization

After applying for participation in this program, the temporary staffing agency will proceed with specific administrative procedures.

You will be asked to answer questions from international students about your business and the work you are in charge of. After the exchange meeting, international students submit their wishes to the secretariat of the company or organization where they will work for the internship.

(5) Notification of matching results between international students and companies and organizations (early July)

(6) Face-to-face visits to companies and organizations (late July ~ early August)

(7) Confirmation of host students, various procedures (paid: dispatch contract, unpaid: conclusion of agreements, etc.) (late July ~ as needed)

(8) Pre-training for participating international students (international students will participate on Tuesday, August 8 and Wednesday, August 9)

(9) Employment at the host company or organization (Monday, August 14 ~ Sunday, September 24)

(10) Post-training for participating international students (Saturday, October 28)

(11) Achievement debriefing and networking events for international students, companies, organizations, etc. (Saturday, November 11)

Business Overview

As the globalization of higher education accelerates, such as the enhancement of support for international students and the promotion of collaborative projects with overseas universities, the English proficiency of university faculty and staff has become indispensable as a basic ability.
In addition, international students from many countries and regions have their own cultural backgrounds, and in order to communicate smoothly, it is essential to understand customs, social norms, religions, etc. beyond language.
For this reason, the University Consortium Kyoto aims to raise the level of practical skills and motivate students to improve their skills by providing training to improve English proficiency by conducting case studies in various situations and training to learn about cultures outside of English-speaking countries.
